Project Overview
The Komati Basin Water Authority (KOBWA) was formed in terms of the Treaty between the Kingdom of Swaziland and the Republic of South Africa for the joint utilization of water resources of the Komati River Basin. The executive summary attached gives us an overview of the following:
- the implementation of Phase 1 of the Komati River Basin Development Project comprising of the Maguga dam(sub-phase 1b) on the Komati River in Swaziland and the Driekoppies dam on the Lomati River in South Africa (sub-phase 1a). The implementation consisted of the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Maguga Dam and Driekoppies Dam.
- the establishment of KOBWA to implement phase-1 of the project
- the sharing of water resources and the capital cost of the Project.
