As part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility and community development, the Komati Basin Water Authority (KOBWA) donated food parcels and toiletries to Esandleni Somusa Disability Centre in Matsulu, Mpumalanga, on 14 August 2026.

The donation followed a visit to the centre during Mandela Day activities on 30 July 2026, during which KOBWA identified challenges relating to access to basic necessities and reliable water services. In response, the Authority committed to supporting the centre by addressing some of its immediate needs and contributing towards improving the well-being of its beneficiaries.

In a further effort to provide sustainable assistance, KOBWA and the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) conducted a joint technical assessment of a borehole located at the centre to determine the feasibility of restoring a sustainable water supply. The assessment sought to identify the repairs and technical requirements necessary to improve access to reliable water services for the facility.

Speaking during the handover of the donated items, KOBWA Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Trevor Shongwe, reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to making a meaningful difference in communities within its area of operation. “As KOBWA, we believe that our responsibility extends beyond water resource management to uplifting and supporting the communities we serve. We are honoured to partner with organisations that are making a positive impact in people's lives, and we hope this donation will contribute towards the valuable work being carried out by the Esandleni Somusa Disability Centre”, said Mr. Shongwe. He further emphasized the importance of partnerships and collective action in supporting institutions such as the Esandleni Somusa Disability Centre, which provides essential care and support to vulnerable members of society.
